The horizon. You find yourself always and undeniably right in the middle of it. Is it wide open? Or could it be widened a little bit? Still a long way to go, or are you facing it? And, is this in literal sense or only imaginative? Are you navigating carelessly or utterly aware? …There’s so many parameters to mark ones place in all of this. Space in the broadest -and deepest- sense makes for the arena for a life narrative. How do we see our horizon?
Horizon Atelier takes you on a private ‘excursion’ to the horizon (while you’re hanging out together with colleagues, family or friends) in forms of thought experiments. It is a feel-good, easy-going tour – with only one peculiar rule: The guide can maybe make you turn your head, but will never have your view! Horizon Atelier is handing you the spyglass for an extraordinary peek of the horizon – namely the one that lies within you.
About
Horizon Atelier is an artistic project of ‘maritime philosopher’ Iris Droog (1977). As a professional, she works in media & communications. As an expert on human imagination, she researches mental space in a creative and interactive way, using the horizon as a metaphor. In open-atelier settings, she invites people of all ages and backgrounds to cast a lighthearted view on their inner horizon.
In 2022, I travelled from Rotterdam to New York with Holland America Line. A big inspiration for a horizon-minded artist and a travel dream coming true, making ‘de Rotterdam’ my horizon muse ever since.
